RAISE Case Study Pillgwenlly Primary School, Newport Pillgwenlly Literacy Homework club Pillgwenlly Primary is a large multicultural school situated in the heart of the dockland area of Newport, South Wales approximately 12 miles east of Cardiff.  The school is in an area of high social deprivation.  Currently, there are :

  • 597 pupils on roll

  • 30 languages spoken

  • 42% FSM

RAISE funding was used to improve skills in literacy and numeracy in Y2 and Y6 with the aim of raising achievement and attainment for disadvantaged pupils. Further to this, was the aim of raising pupils’ self esteem and improving the key skill of communication.
