SEAL - Parent Workshop

If you cannot see any controls, hover over the video to bring these up.

Liz James, an adult tutor from The Family Support Team ran these sessions at Gellifaelog Primary School on a weekly basis.

Focusing on theme 7, entitled Changes, in the SEAL resource pack, the group of parents present, along with the tutor, looked at change and the feelings it can sometimes leads to. They also discussed how to manage these changes and how to cope positively with changes in their lives.

They discussed changes that have happened in children’s lives and how children have different needs as they get older. They looked at changes that are expected, for example, growing taller, becoming more independent and how as parents we can help children make choices to change things in their lives.

The tutor looked at some games that the parents could try at home with the children to encourage talking about change.

Towards the end of the session, they discussed how to help children through unexpected changes, for example, death of a loved one or divorce, and how as parents we can help them cope with these changes.

Some of the resources used;

Parents SEAL booklet entitled ‘Changes’ and ‘Changes – Family Activities’ [ the Gold set]

Changes – PowerPoint.
